Dieting -- "can't eat this", "can't eat that" -- is a product of technology (technology leads to reduced manual effort leads to getting fatter leads to dieting.) Dieting adds a tremendous amount of stress. Most people can't pick up anything anymore without worrying about calories, or fat, or something. We evolved to crave that stuff -- it meant our survival. Now we have to go against our natural instinct because we're sedentary. And why I are we so sedentary? Technology. No one in an amazonian tribe is dieting. No one there is counting calories as they chow down on some fuckin' deer leg. They just smile and enjoy it.
If you follow the evolutionary pattern then, it seems that those humans that are more apt to gain weight easily or have stronger urges towards calories and fat will die out more quickly and eventually be weeded out. What once was a survival trait has become a death sentence - an extinction verdict.
